Ask about the study's purpose, the alternatives, the expected visits, risks and possible benefits. Find out what happens if you choose not to participate or decide to leave.
Understand consent
Informed consent is a discussion as well as a document. Ask for explanations you can understand and raise questions before signing. The study team should explain what is known and what remains uncertain.

- Which costs are covered, and which are my responsibility?
- What records will be shared, with whom, and for what purpose?

A referral coordinator can help organise communication. The clinical team must answer treatment and study-specific questions.
